AboutPeter Fong Image by Connor Patterson.Process driven, handcrafted, custom furniture designer and maker with a love for all things handmade.
I specialise in one-off, considered pieces that feature proud joinery and wood-on-wood construction; avoiding the use of nails and screws where possible. I am fascinated by Japanese joinery techniques and the array of hand tools used to create them along with the close relationship between tool and user. Hand tools connect me to the process that I value and enjoy just as much as the final product, which I hope permeates through each piece.
Longevity and sustainability are my leading design cues when creating new pieces. They are made with forethought for maintenance and future repairs. I work with sustainable or recycled timbers where possible and design the dimensions according to the sizes available. Methods of joinery are then considered which informs the final design and aesthetic of each piece with proud visible joinery being a feature rather than being hidden.
My aim is to impart a sense of permanence into our everyday objects through the use of well-thought-out construction and materials paired with timeless, clean designs that will live through generations.
Each piece is created with the intent of ageing beautifully and being passed down.
